We offer Spring, Summer and Fall baseball programs to the youth of Ellington. The following provides an overview of our programs and the goals of each.

T-Ball - Age 6-7

Players that are Little League ages six are eligible to participate in the Ellington T-ball Program or Little League age 7 if they are new to baseball.  Any player(s) who sign up prior to opening day will be placed on a team based on parental request, coach’s request or at the discretion of the T-ball League Director. The manager’s and coaches’ child will be placed on the same team. The number of players that sign up will determine the number of teams. Each team will have seven to twelve players.  A manager and one or more coaches, under the direction of the T-ball League Director will coach the teams. The League Director will recommend managers/coaches to the League President.  The League President will appoint the managers/coaches and will submit the names to the BOD for approval.   Any players signing up on opening day or shortly thereafter will be placed on a team at the discretion of the League Director.

INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUE - Ages 7-8-9

Players between the ages of Little League seven and Little League nine are eligible to participate in the Ellington Instructional Program.  Any player(s) who sign up prior to opening day will be placed on a team based on parental request, coach’s request or at the discretion of the Instructional League Director. The manager and coaches’ child will be placed on the same team. The number of players that sign up will determine the number of teams. Each team will have nine to fourteen players.  A manager and one or more coaches, under the direction of the Instructional League Director will coach the teams. The League Director will recommend managers/coaches to the League President. Any players signing up on opening day or shortly thereafter will be placed on a team at the discretion of the League Director. The League President will appoint the managers/coaches and will submit the names to the BOD for approval.

FARM LEAGUE - Ages 7-10

The Farm League concept is to provide a transition year(s) for players between the Instructional league and the Minor/Major League Divisions.

Little League Age 7, 8, 9  - Some players may have the option to be evaluated to play in the Farm league.  Age 7-9  players not selected to play in the Farm league or choose to not be evaluated for farm league will play in the Instructional league.  See local rules for eligibility requirements.

Little League Age 10 - Players who do not get selected via an evaluation to play in the minor league, will be eligible for and will play in the Farm league.

The Minor/Farm League Director will conduct a draft to assign these players to teams.

MINOR LEAGUE - Ages 8- 11

Players who: (1) choose not to play in the Major League; or (2) try out for the Major League and are not drafted onto a Major League team will play in the Minor League program. Players between the ages of 10 through 12 years old can try out for the Major League. We encourage all eligible players who aren't already on a Major League team to try out.

The Minor League is a competitive program that incorporates a "recreation team" philosophy. Whereas, the players in this league are playing, primarily, by Major League rules, there are exceptions. This league stresses the teaching of baseball fundamentals and sportsmanship.  A playoff championship will occur at the end of the season. Players will be assigned to their respective teams in a manner that provides for balanced, competitive teams.

Little League Age 8, 9, 10 – Evaluations are required for placement in either the Farm or Minor leagues.  Players, who do not get selected to play in the Minor league, will be eligible for and will play in the Farm league. See local rules for eligibility requirements.

Little League Age 11 players who: (1) choose not to play in the Major League; or (2) try out for the Major League and are not drafted onto a Major League team will play in the minor league.

The Minor/Farm League Director will conduct a draft to assign these players to teams.  Players who tried out and were not drafted by a Major League team will be put on a “player selection list”. In the event there is an opening at the Major League level, only a player on the player selection list can be considered and brought up to the Major League.  The parent of a twelve year old can elect to have their child play in the minors, but this does require a petition to Little League.

MAJOR LEAGUE - Ages 10 -12

The Major League is a competitive program that incorporates a "travel team" philosophy.  There are minimum playing time rules (6 consecutive defensive outs and one at bat per game) that all major league managers must adhere to. Player's knowledge and experience will grow with the regular game schedule, potential post season play, and the extensive practice schedule. Players between the ages of 10 through 12 who are interested in playing in the Majors are selected through a try out process. ALL 12 Year Olds will plav in Majors unless their family petitions otherwise, Players previously selected for a Major league team do not tryout and will remain on their respective Major League team.

*Players that tryout for Majors and are not drafted, are placed on a "Player Selection List". ONLY those players on the list are eligible to be brought up to Majors if an opening occurs during the season.

JUNIOR/SENIOR LEAGUE - Ages 13-16

The Junior/Senior League program is open to players between the ages of 13-16. The teams from Ellington will play against teams from surrounding towns. The Ellington Junior League is primarily for players between the ages of 13-14 while the Senior League is open to players ages 15-16.
